Welcome! We are a community of faith who invites and welcomes everyone to the worship of and service to God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We desire to serve our Lord Jesus Christ as disciples in our community in full partnership and participation with one another as we find our place and our own humanity along the way. Through our service and worship we know that we are needed and that we belong to God.
We believe in sharing God’s love among all people, fostering and healing our community and growing the body of Christ at the Episcopal Church of the Cross.
We are the local Episcopal Church serving the Garners Ferry/VA hospital area of Southeast Columbia. We are located at 7244 Patterson Road (the street running next to the Garner’s Ferry Wal-Mart) and next to Annie Burnside Elementary School. Sunday service begins at 10:30am during which time a nursery/Sunday school is provided. We offer a free breakfast every Sunday at 9:30am as well.
The Episcopal Church is the American version of the Church of England. Although distinctly American (organized about the time the country was formed), the Episcopal Church is self-governing but retains its spiritual link with the Church of England. That means that we have traditional teachings and ways of worship, looking to the most ancient traditions of the Christian faith.
We believe that we represent the best of both Protestant and Catholic tradition. We celebrate the Holy Eucharist, also called Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper, as part of the worship service every Sunday. The sacraments and sacramental rites are signs and symbols of some of God’s most crucial gifts. They bring the love and grace of God into our lives.
At Church of the Cross, we know that you will feel at home as you experience our nurturing and diverse Christian community. Many of our members grew up in other denominations; we therefore know how it feels to be a newcomer.
The mission of the Episcopal Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ. We invite all in our southeast community to join us in this mission. This culturally diverse congregation calls on you to broaden our family in Christ. Our outreach efforts include: Harvest Hope Food Bank, Families Helping Families, Alcoholics Anonymous, and the Boy Scouts of America.
We share a church sisterhood with St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in the Bahamas, working together to the benefit of both our communities. Our vision of “One Body, One Mission…Changing Lives” is evident in all that we do. We invite you to join us in worship and devoted service to the glory of God.
We welcome casual dress. Come feel our spirit and energy at Church of the Cross. Come grow with us in spreading and living the Gospel of the Lord.
